Tyrrell's Vat 1 Semillon 2005 -160th Anniversary
This legendary Australian wine label started in 1858 when Edward Tyrrell took up a selection of 320 acres of prime Hunter Valley land, building the winery in 1863 and releasing the first vintage in 1864. Nearly one hundred years later in 1963 arguably the world’s finest Semillon, Tyrell’s Vat 1 Hunter Semillon was first produced with grapes grown on the Short Flat Vineyard. To celebrate the winery’s 160th Anniversary in 2018, Tyrell released their 2005 Tyrell’s Vat 1 Semillon, the most awarded wine in Tyrrell’s history with 34 Trophies, 57 Gold, 12 Silver and 6 Bronze medals making it a wine not to be missed.
The 2005 Vat 1 Semillon opens with attractive aromas of honeysuckle blossom and fresh mountain wildflowers, leading into a palate that thrums with restrained citrus energy. Lots of natural fruit acid that promises to give way to some rich oaky characters with time. This wine will continue to develop beautifully in the cellar over the next two decades.

Vintage 2005 - The display of 14 gold medals and seven trophies on the bottle borders on the vulgar, however richly it deserves this haul. It is still a pale, bright green, and the lemon/mineral flavours are exceptionally fresh and vibrant, lingering for minutes on the finish and aftertaste; a freak wine that will live as long as any red wine of similar age.
