Torbreck The Laird Shiraz 2012 1.5L Magnum
The Laird was a happy result of Torbreck doing some winemaking for some of the Seppelt family who had some particularly good grapes from one of their vineyards. Torbreck was so pleased with the result that they not only bought the fruit, in 2013 Torbreck purchased the Gnadenfrei vineyard itself, which secured The Laird’s reputation as one of the world’s great single vineyard Shiraz wines. The Laird Shiraz Magnum 2012 will go down as one of the greatest vintages the Barossa Valley has ever had; a very special wine in a very special magnum to take pride of place at a very special occasion.
The nose of Torbreck The Laird Shiraz 2012 is extremely oaky, with dark fruitcake and mocha accompanying it. On the palate, dark berries, raisins and prunes with a hint of chocolate on the finish. Three years were spent in Dominique Laurent magic casks and two years in finishing in bottles before release. A superb wine to drink slowly with slow-roasted meats.
