Torbreck Descendant Shiraz Viognier 2008
When Torbreck co-fermented this “descendant” Shiraz with Viognier, it was a first in the Barossa; they have since been joined by many others, a testament to the success of this Rhone blend. The co-fermented Viognier gives the wine a spicy lift while the Shiraz imparts layers of dark brooding fruits. Torbreck Descendant Shiraz Viognier has a beautiful harmony of flavour with a matching silky texture and an amazing length, it's just hitting its straps, brilliant with beefy canapés.
The 2008 Descendant is another impressive release of this wine, the colour making that immediately apparent; completely black/purple with healthy, vibrant magenta hues. A pure, wild, powerful nose of blackberry and tar is complimented by a gentle floral lift of lavender and violets. Full-bodied with great concentration, silky tannins and perfectly judged extract, this vigorous and suave young wine has a long, long future ahead of it.
