Seppeltsfield Barossa Grenache 2018
Back in 1850 when Silesian immigrant Joseph Seppelt bought his estate, giving it the no-nonsense name of Seppeltsfield, he intended to use grow tobacco. Over the years though, the family planted vineyards instead including the contoured rows of Grenache on the west of the estate. Recently, the restored 1888 Gravity Cellar has revitalised their still wines. Super-premium Barossa red varietals, like their Barossa Grenache, once again pass through the cellar, enabling the gentle colour and tannin extraction displayed in this Seppeltsfield Grenache; an unoaked, lighter wine style than the typical Barossa Red.
Medium crimson colour, cherry, cranberry and middle-eastern spices all gently meet the nose of Seppeltfields Barossa Grenache, before developing further on the palate. The entire wine is held together nicely by gentle tannins, which give way for a long and mellow finish. This is a wine that is designed to be drunk young and chilled like Pinot Noir and matches perfectly with aged mellow cheeses like Brie and Cheddar.
