Pommery Brut Royal NV Champagne 750mL
Way back in 1875 Pommery produced the first brut Champagne to meet with commercial success, breaking with the tradition of very sweet wine. To make it happen, Madame Pommery needed wine cellars so in July 1868 she paid French and Belgian miners to dig 18 kilometres of interconnected galleries of barrel and rib vaults out of the limestone, 30 metres below the earth. She had also bought some of the best vineyards in Champagne, so she was able to pursue the excellence she desired that continues to Pommeroy Brut Royal today; this dry and refreshing style from 40 carefully selected crus from the Champagne region, a bottle of special champagne.
Pale yellow, the Pommeroy Brut Royal NV is fresh and vivacious with small assertive notes of red fruit. It is a rounded, rich, supple, and fruity wine that lingers in the mouth, a clean taste with no dryness. A very smooth wine, which never wanes on the palate and works well with the champagne food favourites, seafood, shellfish, smoked salmon, and caviar.
