Penfolds Bin 95 Grange Shiraz 1990
The amazing story of Grange starts with Max Schubert, who joined as messenger boy in 1931 and by 1948 was Penfolds’ first Chief Winemaker. Inspired by the winemakers of Bordeaux, Schubert made his first experimental wine in 1951, proudly gave management a tasting, only to find nobody liked it and he was ordered to shut down the project. He continued to craft his Grange in secret, the board relented, just in time for the 1960 vintage and it is now one of the world’s most revered wines. The Grange Shiraz 1990 vintage is believed to eventually rival classic vintages such as 1955 so there’s never been a better time to buy Schubert’s symphony in a bottle.
Beautifully weighted and concentrated with intense, ripe plummy aromas with smoky vanillin oak. It is supremely complex and harmonious, with ripe plums, luscious fruit, integrated oak, fine tannins and excellent length.
