Expert Reviews

James Halliday, WineCompanion.com.au

Vintage 2010 - Craftmanship of the highest order in the vineyard and winery have combined to create a perfect example with this wine. The intensity and power unwind effortlessly, but with multiple aroma and flavour messages from the barrel fermentation and subsequent maturation of the fully ripe, pink grapefruit and peach at its core.

Ray Jordan, West Australian Wine Guide 2016

2013 Vintage - This has to be one of the most delightfully restrained and elegant of any Leeuwin chardonnay I can recall. It is also one of the very best. Everything has come together so perfectly with a mix of creamy stone fruit, roasted cashew and distinctive grapefruit. The power and lingering intensity are something else. A super wine.

Vintage 2013 - 55% machine-picked at night, 45% hand-picked, 64% cultured yeast, 36% wild yeast, fermented in and matured for 11 months in new French oak. Supremely elegant and finely balanced, and has absorbed the new oak in a manner worthy of a Grand Cru White Burgundy, leaving the fragrant bouquet and finely structured palate of startling length to occupy centre stage.

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Vintage 2010 - Recent vintages of Leeuwin Chardonnay have been tighter and finer, still the power, but with a little more finesse. Pear, lemon and cinnamon oak with a little smoky barrel work – typical Leeuwin smells, though finer. Medium to full bodied with a distinct lemony tang and cut to the acidity, spice, Teddy Bear biscuits, savoury toasty elements – gently done- and a fine long zesty finish of impeccable length. You get the power from the vineyard, but with less noise from alcohol and winemaking than some earlier vintages. Excellent release.

Ray Jordan, West Weekend

Vintage 2010 - Is this the best Leeuwin Chardonnay yet? It’s certainly the most different. Tighter, leaner and more cussed but with that hallmark of inner core power and intensity that has made it consistently Australia’s best chardonnay. Winemaker says it’s been more a tweak than a re-invention. Whatever, it’s a great wine.

James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au

Vintage 2010 - "Pale green-gold; a restrained bouquet offering pure grapefruit and cashew aromas, yet revealing little at this point in time; the palate reveals a swathe of pure fruit, showing a vintage of purity rather than complexity, the latent power is held in check by linear acidity well-handled French oak; long, expansive and absolutely in keeping with the lineage that precedes it.
