Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz 2014
We hope you're not disappointed to learn that Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz does not take its name from a bad-tempered winemaker, but from the Shiraz vines planted way back in 1893 that provide the grapes. Kaesler owns just over 37 hectares of vineyards in the Barossa Valley, the majority of which is old vine material planted in 1893,1899,1930 and the 1960s. With such an established lineage, it's no surprise that this Barossa Shiraz is such a deliciously distinguished wine suitable for the finest of occasions.
This noble Barossa Shiraz from Kaesler’s Old Bastard vines is worth taking your time over, from admiring how it looks in your (crystal) glass, dark purple-red, with a garnet edge, to savouring the fruit-driven nose of blackberries, raspberries and blueberries and some cherry notes too. The palate is forest fruits with blackberries and mulberries, aromatic spices of anise and nutmeg, with coffee and chocolate. With so much flavour in the glass, it will match easily with well-seasoned red meat and aged cheeses.
