Hewitson Monopole Mother Vine Shiraz 2015
Awarded 97 points by James Halliday, this is a cracker expression of Barossa Shiraz.
Dean Hewitson took cuttings from one ancient vine planted in 1853 and increased the number of rootlings year by year. Freakishly good, the wine’s structure and texture are perfect, a mix of plum, blackberry and savoury notes, the length and balance faultless.

Festooned with gold medals, the wine is undoubtedly superb, coming as it does from a good vintage and a very great vineyard. The interesting part is the CO2 prickle that underwrites the longer term future of an already beautiful lemon and mineral-accented wine.
