Henschke The Wheelwright Eden Valley Shiraz 2015
The inaugural release of The Wheelwright commemorates 150 years of family winemaking and pays tribute to the ‘founding father’ of Henschke, Johann Christian Henschke. Johann Christian arrived from the German-speaking region of Silesia as a skilled stonemason and wheelwright and planted his first vineyards in the high country of the picturesque Eden Valley in 1868. This powerful wine is produced from old-vine Shiraz planted a century later by fourth-generation winemaker and founding Baron of The Barossa, the late Cyril Henschke.
Henschke The Wheelwright Eden Valley Shiraz is dark crimson in colour with lifted aromas of red fruits; plum, blackberry while savoury complexities lift and add definition. A seductive mid-palate of great depth and rolling velvety tannins lead to a deliciously long, plush finish. Its spicy character makes it a perfect match for tapas.
