Henschke Croft Chardonnay 2016
Fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and his wife Prue purchased the Lenswood vineyards in the Adelaide Hills in 1981. The hills are also home to apple, pear and cherry orchards and Henschke’s chardonnay vineyard, which consists of seven clones is named for Frederick Croft, an orchardist who took up a neighbouring property in 1938. At 550m, the vineyards are in the perfect cool climate position to produce consistently flawless grapes to make this rich and complex Henschke Croft Chardonnay a welcome guest at the best of parties.
Henschke Croft Chardonnay is pale and gold in colour, with hints of tropical fruit, clove and creamy cashew. A complex palate shows layer upon layer of pear and white peach, tightly wound by a deliciously creamy texture, and perfectly balanced with nectarine acidity and subtle oak nuances. It all makes for extraordinary balance and a long, clean finish. Try pairing with pipis.
