Grosset Springvale Riesling 2019
The Clare Valley has a fine reputation for great Riesling and Jeffrey Grosset’s ACO certified organic Springvale vineyard produces some of the best. Apart from his renowned Riesling, we have to thank Jeffrey for leading the crusade to introduce the screwcap closures, which have removed the horror of the crumbling and/or tainted cork from our lives. James Halliday awarded Grosset Wines ‘Australia’s 2018 Best Value Winery’ so do yourself a favour and drink this great vintage of the intensely aromatic Grosset Springvale Riesling now
The Grosset Springvale Riesling, it is beautifully complex, made for savouring in slow, reflective sips. Each mouthful is a silk-textured tapestry of taut steely minerals and razor-like acidity woven through with pure, lifted notes of citrus and apple. Precisely balanced and intensely focused, with a long, fresh, dry finish that goes on and on.

Vintage 2015 - Pure Clare pure watervale, pure Grosset and pure riesling. Dry, chalky, talc-like and long. Sometimes dryness has a glitter to it, cut, the sensation of quartz. It does here. Lime zest and lime juice notes give the flavours flow, run, race. Arrestingly good.

Vintage 2016 - The bouquet is chalky, savoury and flowery, very clean and overt, pristine and overt. The palate has more weight than the Polish Hill, and more power. It’s a wine of great clarity and purity, and the most impressive Riesling on the day.
