Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2018

  • Product details
Dog Point winery takes its name from the area that boundary riders’ dogs would run away and disappear into when they were meant to be herding sheep. Nowadays, this Biogro certified winemaker lets 2,500 sheep graze in the vineyards to keep the weeds down and add their organic matter. The Marlborough native Ti Kouka (cabbage tree) is another feature of the vineyard and appears on the Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc label, appropriately for a wine that is vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and deliciously complex and creamy to drink al fresco surrounded by nature.
  • Tasting notes
The Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc has classic gooseberries and grassy herbal aromas, a tropical punch and hints of citrus. The palate is plump and mouth-watering without being excessively tart with fresh herbs, spice and a lively minerality on the finish

Expert Reviews

Raymond Chan,

Vintage 2015 - Brilliant, light straw-yellow colour, pale edged. This has a full, gently voluminous nose of ripe gooseberry, green stonefruit and tropical fruit aromas entwined with subtle spice elements and complexing flinty minerals. This is fresh and bright, the aromatics growing in breadth and concentration in the glass. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the flavours of green stonefruits and gooseberries are richly sweet and mouthfilling. Fresh herbs, spice notes and complex flinty minerals lend a balancing dryness to the flavours. The wine is even and open, but has weight and depth. The mouthfeel grows to show subtle phenolic textures complemented by a suggestion of unctuousness. Vibrant acidity lends liveliness and tension, and carries the wine to a long, smooth, rich and harmonious finish. This is a soft, mouthfilling Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry and stonefruit flavours complexed by flinty, minerally detail. 18.5/20 Five Stars
