Established back in 1970, Cape Mentelle is known as a Margaret River Icon and one of the "founding five" wineries. Cape Mentelle's winemaking philosophy consists of attention to detail. Building on the tradition placed in the beginning, and uncompromising commitment to excellence, Cape Mentelle continues to take up the challenge of creating the best reflection of what their vineyards have to deliver. Using techniques to produce a unique sense of place within each bottle of wine they produce, with characteristics defined by their coastal location, unique soils, and 40 years of viticultural history.

“Cape Mentelle is firing on all cylinders, with the winemaking team fully capitalising on the extensive and largely mature vineyards, which obviate the need for contract-grown fruit. Cape Mentelle is one of those knocking on the door of the Winery of the Year Award.”

Join Cape Mentelle as they demystify the world of wine. Walking through the winemaking process you will follow the story from the iconic Wallcliffe Vineyard through to their state-of-the-art fruit processing areas and ending in the rammed earth Cabernet Cellar, where you can enjoy a tutored wine and food pairing experience.

Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2018

Tasting note & Product Review

Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is an excellent combination of luscious and juicy fruit while still retaining elegance. There are some yummy passionfruit, papaya and citrus flavours on the palate. A squeeze of Tahitian lime juice and gorgeous acid make this wine oh so good to drink. Impressive on its own or pair with crayfish, yabbies or Thai dishes.

Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is the white wine Cape Mentelle is most famous for, an Aussie favourite almost from the first vintage in the mid-1980s when the winemaker first decided to make white wine. The fruit comes from the winemaker’s original Wallcliffe vineyard, and the wine is rightly regarded as one of the finest in the Margaret River for complexity and deliciousness. When James Halliday awards a wine 97 points as he did the 2016 vintage, you know you’ll be serving something people will remember.
