Angostura Bitters 200ml
Angostura Bitters started life in Venezuela in 1824, when German immigrant Dr Johann Siegert first produced aromatic bitters as an elixir to alleviate stomach ailments. His three sons established Angostura in Trinidad in the 1870s, about the time The Manhattan Cocktail was invented and promoted its use in cocktails. A bartender essential since the first cocktail party at Mrs Julius S. Walsh Jr.’s mansion in St. Louis in 1917, a couple of dashes of this aromatic blend of herbs and spices gives a flavour-enhancing kick to classics like the Manhattan, the Old Fashioned, and many Champagne cocktails.
Angostura Bitters adds that lovely reddish-brown colour in the glass in the Australian classic, Lemon Lime and bitters and of course is the pink in a Pink Gin. It gives off an aromatic bouquet of the herbs, fruit and spices from which it's made and its aromatic taste and bitterness help to release the flavours of whatever drink or food you add it to. It's why you'll find it in every commercial bar and kitchen and if you're throwing a cocktail party, it's as essential as the invitations.
